Shandon Masonic Lodge No. 370, A.F.M. was charted by the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina on March 11, 1948. It was the first Lodge to be charted in the Columbia area after the end of World War II. A sister Lodge, Earlewood, No. 371, was charted at the same time.
The new Lodge held its meetings at different locations in Columbia until December of 1956 when it moved into its new Temple on 315 South Maple Street.
Shandon Lodge soon became known for its good degree work and excellent fellowship. Membership grew very rapidly to over four hundred members. During the last several years Shandon Lodge has, like most other Lodges in the Columbia area, experimented a decline in membership.
Today, Shandon Lodge continues to be very active. The good Degree work and excellent fellowship continues today just as it has since the beginning.
